Acuaviva, LYSA's Colombian subsidiary which operates the drinking water and sanitation network in the town of Palmira is at the centre of a challenge.
Last year LYSA transferred 80% of its shares to users and employees via a joint-venture called "acuaviva es mia", which means ACUAVIVA is mine, at a time when its technical assistance contract is coming to an end and LYSA does not wish to prolong it, as it considers that the Colombian company is completely autonomous. In this way, LYSA wishes to protect the company management model which is based on transparency and efficiency so that the results of a company, whose management indicators have raised it to the top level of Colombian companies, can maintain its results. The new municipal team has initiated a study on the possible solutions for the future of the company. LYSA hopes that the priority criterion will be the maintenance of the management model.
ACUAVVA is continuing its work and its exchanges with users on fundamental subjects such as the protection of the water resource. Will the users put pressure on their mayor to ensure that he takes care of Acuaviva in the same way as they take care of the resource?
